Krishna Kaberi is an Oriya movie directed by Premendra Mitra, based on a story by Gopinath Mohanty. It is the first Oriya film made without the help of any other language. The film had its world premiere at the International Film Festival of India in 2005. The film's central character is Krishna Kaberi, daughter of a tribal hunter Jhau, who lives deep in the forest with her entire family. She falls in love with Adit Rao, son of Mrutyunjaya Rao of civil construction contractor corporation M R C Company which came to build a dam project near their village. Chinte (Rajendra Nath) is Krishna's brother and the film deals mainly with Krishna and Adit. The film deals with the problems of lesbianism, tribalism and animal rights. The star cast includes Sandhya Mridul, Indrani Dutta, Rathindra Das and Sabyasachi Mitra. Director Premendra Mitra took 13 years to finish the "Gudia Gudia" script for this movie. It was a story by Gopinath Mohanty about a man from another planet known as "Gouda". In this film, he used a story by Ramakrishna Das as his inspiration to create a scientist character as well as his relationships with women. He said that the film will question "nature's intention" and "society's greed". Mitra said that the Gudia Gudia character is a scientist from another planet who will come to this world and change it. He added that such a character can be responsible for science as well as tourism. Sandhya Mridul, an actress from Odisha who had acted in 11 movies before "Krishna Kaberi", received her first Bollywood award for best actress at the Asian Film Awards 2006 for this film. The film was also awarded with Best Film and Best Actress at the Oriya Film Festival 2006. The film won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues and was also screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2005, Egypt, Algiers and Cairo International Film Festival. It was also shown in Odisha, Mumbai and Delhi. The film had its world premiere at the International Film Festival of India in 2005. The music has been given by Premendra Mitra himself. The lyrics are by Sambhu Nath Panigrahi. "Krishna Kaberi" was released on DVD in 2010, with English subtitles.
