James Bond 007: Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) is an action spy film directed by Roger Spottiswoode and released in 1997, the 19th release of the long-running EON Productions series of films based on Ian Fleming's fictional British agent James Bond. It was the third Bond film made after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, which provided a background for the plot. In this film Bond fights to stop an evil media mogul from inducing a global crisis as part of his plan to achieve world domination. The location filming for Tomorrow Never Dies took place in several countries, but most of it – especially Seacombe and Southampton docks – was filmed around and within London Docklands and on board HMS Belfast and HMS Warrior, and at Dover Castle. Davidov of Rambus, a fictional Russian media mogul and criminal, lives in Brighton and is one of the richest men in the world. He has made a fortune by selling Communism around the world, and he is now moving into Eastern Europe and Russia. The Head of MI6 (M), Elliot Carver (the film's main antagonist) has been ordered to track down this man before he can cause serious harm to Britain's national security. This creates a vacancy; Carver requests that 007 be assigned to take over Denbigh's duties. Bond is in a hotel room in San Giovanni when he is approached by an old friend, Valentin Zukovsky (who gives his name in English as "Vladamir"), who was an ex-KGB agent. Zukovsky's daughter Milly (Eva Green) is there at the same time with her wealthy family and a woman named Fiona Volpe. The family arranges a party for Bond for Milly, and she visits him there. Bond is attacked by assassins, and Milly is captured and taken away. Bond kills one of the attackers and finds her playing dead. Milly reveals that she was trained as an assassin by the KGB, and they attempt to escape from Bond on a boat chase through a Venice canal. Leiter arrives in a power boat to help them escape. All of this takes place shortly after the new M (Robert Brown) has arrived, and he instructs Bond to find out why Denbigh killed himself after he sent Bond on an assignment for him.
